Ancient Chinese legend has it that if a carp can swim upstream and jump over the dragon gate, it will become a real dragon. So some people tend to have a superstition that if people in reality happen to see a carp upstream, trying to cross the waterfall to the upper reaches, then the people will succeed in the exam, promotion and other things.
